These are just about my favoite bass strings in the world. Almost perfect.
I can't believe that tone and thump that I get from these strings on
my jazz bass. In addition to gigs, I've recorded with them and am just
floored by the tone they put out. I also love the feel more than any
other string I've played bar none. They are very stiff and responsive.
Very smooth string and you feel like you're ice skating on them
(I'm a good ice skater, so that's a compliment).
However, they seem to be very high tension and I had a lot of trouble
keeping my bass set up right with them on it. I would get everything
dialed in and within a few weeks, the neck would have given way just
enough to take my intonation out of whack up the string. Finally
switched to the Ernie Ball Flatwounds, they sound almost as good, feel
almost as good, but are kinder to my neck. I hate that the Fenders
aren't a more solid solution for me, because I love them and they are a
freakin' bargin, but they aren't for my bass. Maybe if you have a
Stingray or a Warwick or something with a really heavy neck, they'd be
the string for you. (assuming you like flatwounds, of course) They
aren't for the slappers.
