This is my 2nd experience w/ these cabs having owned 1 for many years that was used for weddings/private functions, and apres ski gigs. My original finally crapped out so I bought one of the newer deep red series......then I bought another. My previous cabs were Eden 410 and 210 which I sold. The Eden's sounded great, I just got fed up with hauling them around. At my age I decided if I was still lugging my own gear I needed stuff I could pick up with 1 hand and didn't have to sheepishly ask the drummer to help me get my refrigerator into the gig! You should know that as far as tone is concerned I am the fussiest man alive so this decision was not made hastily. These Bag End cabs are fantastic and they carry a 5 yr. warranty. They are ruggedly made and the sound is very high-fi w/o much coloration.....you get out what you put in. They are 15s however so don't expect that quick transient of modern 10 cabs. I use a 65 P-bass most of the time so I like the 60's 15" sound. I power the cabs w/ an Eden Traveler and use 1 or 2 cabs as the gig demands. There are very loud for their size and the sound distributes better than most cabs, even in crappy sounding rooms w/ a lot of wood on the walls /floors and metal ceilings. The overall sound is very punchy but they will deliver whatever your talent can EQ. They do require a lot of power...do NOT run your power amp knob at anything less than full or use less than the recomended wattageyou will blow the speaker! I enjoy them and will probably use them until the bitter end. I've used 2 in large clubs/ outdoors , on large stages, and 1 in small venues. With the Eden head and 1 cab it's like a state of the art Ampeg portaflex w/ more power and cleaner tone, w 2 I've done a fair job of imitating an SVT or a more modern tone. Lets face it folks....on most large stages the sound man takes a direct out and asks that you turn your 410 cab down...right? That doesn't happen w/ these babies...I get the tone I want and he can set the room sound w/ no trouble. An added bonus is that every drummer I've played with comments on how well they can hear my bass, no matter the setting! Ever sat behind the drums w/ a set of sticks and tried to hear? try it sometime..it ain't fun and you will learn an invaluable lesson on how much help your drummer needs from you. At an outdoor gig I did using 2 cabs with a great sax player of renown (u know him but I ain't droppin names here) we did some early Jr Walker style stuff and he commented on how fat and punchy the tone was. I used 1 cab at a medium size blues club gig w/ no problem and they are great for getting in and out of weddings/apres ski quickly......don't ya just hate fighting the crowd to get in?!?!? To cap....they are loud/light/powerful and give good tone w/o braking your back, they fit in a small trunk and you can carry a pair alone...whats not to like? Heres my musician plug...please don't let club/venue owners make you change into your expensive suit or tux in the friggin bathroom! I refuse and if we all do it for awhile maybe it'll go away eh?!?! Enjoy the life.
