I was interested in trying flats again, so I decided to try these. At
first, I was impressed. They have a rather high output, as their name
would suggest. These are not twangy flats like you usually hear. The
emphasis is on bass and low mids. The highs are rather muted. I miss the
brilliance of the mids that my usual strings, Ken Smith Bass Burners,
provide, however. These sound a bit dull to me. No "brown sound" here.
Sustain is average. The tension is medium. The feel is not as smooth as
Ernie Ball flats, but still quite smooth. Smooth is the way that I would
characterize the sound of these strings, too. No growl, no thud, but big
soft bass and low mids. They remind me a little of Zon nickels. My
previous review of these strings somehow disappeared. This is an updated
version. I am now back to using Bass Burners.
I play a Peavey T-40 through a Hughes & Kettner Bassbase 250 head and a
homemade 12" Theile spec'd cabinet.
