This bass is really superb. It has a Bartolini preamp that can be bypassed to give more traditional, passive tones. With the preamp engaged,it gives a rich, full sound. It has 2 mini-knobs for the EQ. Probably the best thing about it is the neck. It is a 5-pc. maple/bubinga neck wqith an ebony fretboard. It feels like the neck on a Ken Smith bass I had. The MBC-4 is based on a Fender Jazz but more modern and it has Bartolini Soapbars rather than jazz bass style pickups. I happen to love Bartolini stuff. The fretwork is great and the action can be very low with no buzzing. Probably the best overall bass I have ever owned( and it is light which is great for gigging). I agree with the other Moon Bass reviewer. They are truly great instruments.
