Being a guitar player for years, I had never ventured into the bass world before. A friend had told me to look into G&L, Leo Fender's last company.
I went out and played a couple of different one in local music store and liked what I saw (and heard). A good source of info is the Guitars by Leo
webpage (www.guitarsbyleo.com)- alot of good people sharing information. I learned a lot by reading and participating in the bullitin board there.
I got a good deal on a used ASAT Bass. It has the same electronics as the L-2000, but in a Telecaster style body. The different tone that you can
get out of it are amazing. With the neck p/u switched on only, and in single coil, treble down and bass turned up, you get a warm, fat P-bass that
would make Leo proud. Fiddle with the switches, and out comes a growly Jazz bass. Go active, and you sound like Stanley Clarke. You can slap, pick
finger anything. It plays all the way up the neck, and is easy to paly. It does it all.
I did not mark anything for customer service, having never had to deal with the factory. However, I know there are several major G&L dealers nationwide
who will go the extra mile for a G&L product and customer, whether you bought it from them or not.
Highly recommend any of G&L's basses. They are hand-built in Fullerton, CA and are beautiful instruments. I live in Norfolk, VA, and with the
changes in weather that we have (hot, humid, rain, cold) the bass stays rock solid and in tune. I tried Fender and some others, but for the money,
G&L is, bar none, the best value- The construction, the feel, the way they play, the way they sound... Leo Fender did it right.
