This is my first upper-end bass. I play acoustic bass and own a squier jazz bass. When I was looking for a new bass, I was looking for something that I could slap on and get into some funk. This instrument is just what i was looking for.
I picked this up for $750, which I think is a great deal. At the music store I played $1200 and $1300 basses, and this has abetter sound. The pickup is place in the right spot, a good anchor for fingering, but not in the way for slaping. I love the neck! It is maple and is wide and flat, very easy and smooth. The electronics are good, there are a vaariety of sounds you can get by using combinations of the switching (there is a faiint hum when it is using the single coil, but that is to be expected.) The quality of construction is excellent. The neck joint is very tight and it has a massive bridge which gives it the best sustain I have heard. The tuners are very solid and substantial, and it stays in tune, even when doing some heavy slaping. I think it is the best instrument under $1200 for someone who wants to play funk.
