I decided since I could not have a drummer at my beck and call,
I needed to purchase a drum machine. A friend recommended the Alesis
and I now see why it is popular.
There are 50 preset patterns that are immediately available. These
are very good and there is a fill button which has a little drum solo
and then it switches to an alternate pattern. I use one pattern
for the bulk of the song and then fill to the chorus. The patterns
are Rock, Latin, R&B, Polka, Rockabilly, Rap, Reggae, Jazz, Jazz rock, Funk, Country,
and Hard Rock. Each pattern has the A/B configuration with the fill.
There are 233 drum and rhythm samples mixed with variations of room
and hall reverb. I haven't had the time to play with all of these but
each has it's own qualities.
The Alesis is also completely MIDI ready and programmable. There
is a feature that allows programming so you can come up with your
own patterns and program them in.
This is every bassists dream come true...having a drummer when
ever you want one and a drummer that plays only what you want and
DOESN'T screw up or play something different each time. I recommend
this to every bassist out there. It is a great practice tool and
helps bassists who do not gig develop good timing and the ability
to connect with a real drummer. It lists at $349 but I bought mine
brand new for $260. There are pedals available for the machine for
extra.
