I bought a "00 stingray bass in January. It sounded fantastic at the
store and I thought it would blow away my fender jazz basses. I liked the
sound and loved the three band eq. I found I could not make this bass sound
good in live situations. It would not cut in the mix and if you added some
low end from the eq it became a big wash of bass, with no distintion in the
notes and no clarity. I also notice low volume on the d and g string.
Replacing the pickup to the basslines was the best $74 I've ever spent.
Now the bass has plenty of low end with the eq flat. The bass kills live
and is punchy punchy punchy!!!The pickup is very balanced across all the
strings and the high end sings quite nicely. I am a fingers player and
ocassionally use a pick. The only drawback with this pickup is it doesn't
have the best slap sound. I would recommend leaving the original in if that
is your forte! I have also done some recording with this bass and never got
a punchy fat sound so quickly.
I would highly recommend this pickup to anyone who loves there stingray but
is not happy with is sound.I am even thinking of routing out my G&L L1505
and putting in the 5 string version in it.
