This is a wonderful tube bass preamp that also has incredible onboard
EQ and MANY routing options! THis preamp has it all, if you ask me--all in
one rack space. I couldn't be happier with it. It makes my 7-string MTD
bass sing like heaven, through this then a 3400 watt QSC power amp driving
EA speakers...I love the sound of these units together. Totally clean,
punchy, and warm.
The two-band true parametric EQ is extremely flexible and can be taken
out of the signal chain completely. To be honest, I usually run this setup
TOTALLY FLAT and the sound is what I have always wanted! I haven't tried
the VTB-201 but I hear they sound identical. THis one is WAY more flexible
in the EQ section, though--I don't need ANY other EQ than from this
preamp!!
Did I say the two-band fully parametric EQ RULES?
The passive front end tone controls are subtle but very effective. Kick
in the parametric if you need more EQ...FLEXIBLE
There is also a Preamp gain knob, and effects loop send and receive
knobs..
When you plug in both the active and passive inputs they are mixed
EQUALLY....friggin' brilliant.
I love this thing.
