It's been just over a year since my original review, and a lot has
happened with my rig since then.
As far as speakers, I was using an Alumabass 2x10, and a Hartke 4x10. For a
while, I kept the Alumabass 2x10,and switched out the Hartke 4x10 to a JBL
2x15. Well, I blew up the 2x10 in this configuration, and have since
switched to an Ampeg SVT 415 (4x10s + 1x15.) (By the way, you can read my
reviews of these cabs here on bgra.net!)
I've simplified my rack to include only the mpulse-600 (used to have an
aural exciter) and I ditched the mesa pedal system in favor of running my
1 effect (electro harmonix bass micro synth) inline. Very simple, very
pure.
The rig has never sounded better! After a year of playing with the m-pulse
in practice, and nearly a hundred gigs, I can honestly say that it just
plain rocks! You can't touch this thing! The only amp I've played that
comes close as far as power and tone, is the aguilar db750. But the Ag
costs more, and it doesn't even sound any better, just about as good. All
in all, I wouldn't trade straight across if offered. I'm hooked on the
phat, rich tone, and unimitatable power of the mesa.
Our last gig was at a large, high ceiling, club that holds a couple
hundred. I ran without any assistance from the PA, at about 10 o'clock on
the master dial - and the stage almost crumbled beneath us. - I kept
hearing "turn up the guitar" hahaha.... And at the end, I got more
compliments on my tone than I've ever heard - especially from the guy who
I bought the cab from -"i could never get it to sound like that" - buy
an mpulse-600 fool!

I play funk, rock, soul, r&b, hip-hop and metal at every show - the Mesa
leads the complies with a big phat smile!
