This was my first bass, purchased used by around 1970. After using it for a
year or so I moved up to Gibsons, and others later. This bass wound up being
stored in an attic for over 20 years. When I rescued it, it was in pretty
bad shape. I had the neck completely redone and the pickups/pickguard
completely replaced by a local luthier (saved the originals).
With the new pickup(Seymour Duncan) it has a sound that is a cross between a
P-bass & J bass. The neck is a mid-scale(32"), thin and FAST! The body was
left as it was, with ALL it's "character" because I don't play much anymore
(just for fun), so I didn't waste money on cosmetics!
If you should run across a Hagstrom II bass in reasonably good shape, grab
it! The playability of the neck is well worth the costs of repairs.
