This is it, these are the strings I've been looking for.
A little context is helpful... I'm going for a rock and roll sound, not
really interested in doing the slappity thing - just a nice deep round
tonal thing that fits into rock and blues.
When I started playing bass, everyone pointed me at GHS Bass Boomers - they
never really grew on me, they sounded all metallic and tingly, and then
went dead very quickly. For the longest time, I've used D'Addario
EXL's which were less metallic and sounded closer to what I was after.
But these Rotosound strings nail it. Actually, I think the Swing Bass
strings nail it better - that fat growly sound, but they're mega-hard on
your fingers. The pressurewound variant are quite smooth to the touch, and
while similar in sound to the Swing Bass strings, seem a little more lively
- or something - its hard to explain.
