This was my first ever bass, therefore, I love it. It has since been
superceded by my Washburn XB-600, but it's still a great little bass.
The neck has to be one of the most rock-solid that I've ever seen on
any guitar. I've dropped it countless times and the only visible
damage is two small gouges near the headstock. It's got a great
radius, not as baseball-bat as a '90s Fender Jazz or as flat as a
Washburn XB-600, but somewhere in-between that's super comfortable on
the hands. The 20-fret length is just a little hampering, though, and
the gloss finish makes high-speed runs up and down the fretboard a
little hard on the thumb. The only really bad thing about this bass is
the sound. There only seems to be two settings: loud, crisp, and
trebley or soft, mushy, and deep. Fortunately, they coincide with my
two playing styles, rock and jazz/blues. This bass sounds best with a
set of Light GHS Bass Boomers played through nothing less than a 12"
speaker with at least 50 watt s behind it. It makes a great workhorse
to keep on a stand next to you on-stage, just in case or if you like
to play some, but not all, of the songs in your set with an alternate
tuning (like me). It would also make a great starter platform for
someone looking to hot-rod their bass with new electronics, etc., but
just doesn't have the heart to take the router to their vintage 1969
P-bass.
