I bought this special film piezo pickup for my
Applause Acoustic Fretless Bass AE40.
Background: It's a cheap bass, but with a set of
Thomastik silkcore strings, its tone can beat any
bass 10 times its price. I totally dig the acoustic
tone of this bass. It has a very full mwah and sustain.

However, the stock pickup is a piece of crap. The
amplified sound cannot be used, despite buffering
with proper preamps.
This changed after I got myself a set of of film
pickup from Pickup-the-world (http://www.pick-uptheworld.com/).
It's a small outfit based in Colorado. Very friendly
people to deal with.
I kid you not...the pickup performs like close mic.
It's rather feedback resistant and very quiet. My acoustic
bass now has the mwah tone to die for. Everybody tells me
how good the bass sounds.
