I had looking for a set of flatwounds that were a good match to my '62
reissue P-Bass for a long time when I found a dealer selling the T-I flats
at a guitar show. While the price is steep for a 4-string set, I must say
that I love these strings. Even though the gauges are a little thinner than
what I expected for a good 'thud' sound, the sound is very good
indeed. Most other flats I tried were either very 'ringy'(almost like
roundwounds), or they just didn't feel right (usually too stiff)-- I did
try the "Jamerson" LaBellas (set #760M) but I had a hard time getting
the low E (.110) to tune all the way up the neck. Anyway, with the
Thom-Infeld's I can get all of my favorite sounds (70's R&B, Motown,
Jazz, Stax, Meters) just by varying my technique. If you're a player who
likes the sound and feel of flats, I highly recommend that you give these a
try.
