Well, what is there to say about a perfect bass? This bass is
everything an amateur or professional could ever wish! It sounds
incredibly good; nice tight lows, crystal-clear highs, warm
mids. Looking back on these few lines I can only conclude that they
don't come anything NEAR of describing how good this bass really is.
I have played on and tried out many basses including the really
expensive stuff (like Tobias and Alembic) and this bass is at least as
good as any costing twice the price or more.
This bass is powerful, feels solid in your hands and is very very
pleasing to see (don't believe me, check it out at
http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/DsplyModel/?gEBS00004TRBJP). It
is also very diverse (you can get almost every desirable sound out of
it) and is therefore suitable for almost any style of music. So, for
those session musicians among you...
It is a dream to groove on. Tapping comes through suprisingly
clearly. Harmonics ring as the Big Bang and because it is a
six-stringer, it is also ideal for soloing.
So now you slap-freaks are saying: "six-string, no thanks". Well
besides that slapping sounds good on this bass, I have had no problems
whatsoever with slapping. Even the Mark King style percussive muting
with the left hand works on this bass. The reason is simple: The
string spacing is HUGE.
Which brings us to the only thing about this bass some would find
negative. The neck is so wide (and black!) it could double for a
highway. For me this is only an advantage because I have large
hand. In fact for me this was a prerequisite.
So before you buy that expensive $3000 plus bass, just try this
one. It is, in my opinion, by far the bass with the best price/bang
ratio! Besides my fretless bass, I need no other bass now I have a
TRB6JP...well, for now :-)
