To start with, I'm not a stringed bass player, however, I play synthesized bass parts from my keyboard controller for RIDERS ON THE STORM, a DOORS cover band.

I came accross a well-used Acoustic 150 head, tried it with a Yorkville 2 - 10" bass speaker cabinet, and immediately purchased the Acoustic 150 for $200 Canadian funds. Rather than including the bass parts with my other organ/elec piano parts into my keyboard amp, I can now play the bass parts seperately into the Acoustic amp for much improved thump and volume. Since the head initially exhibited an annoying buzz and quick decay time, I referred it to the repair department at YORKVILLE SOUND, and, while it took about 6 weeks, the repair guys did a great job of reducing the buzz to a barely noticeable hiss, and if needed, my bass sounds decay naturally and sonically without breaking up.

Since this amp has no bias/gain control, the sound module impedance causes so much volume output, that I can not turn the volume up past 1.5 even during live shows!! What this amp has though, is an incredibly warm and punchy sound, and by midi-ing 2 bass sounds an octave apart, and the higher part detuned, I get terrific tube-like warmth, and even trebly brightness, especially when I use the "guitar" channel. The bright switches for each channel are NOT NEEDED...they add too much treble!! By the way, this amp has 2 channels, with 2 inputs each, how handy is that? I'm totally happy with this amp, especially, since Acoustic amps were the ones used by the original DOORS in the late sixties !!
