This FIVE POUND AMP ROCKS!!! The only thing I can think of that is better for a true, flat response is a Walter Woods (I have one on order). This is the only amp I EVER use for any gig, from tiny wedding rooms to outdoor jazz festival stages. In all situations, with very little to no tone tweaking, it rocks. I use it with Euphonic Audio cabs and is kicks !@#. 1x10 is all I use most of the time; but it sounds amazing with the 2x8 cabinet underneath it as well. The combo of the two cabs and this amp is totally worth the @$2000 it'll take to get you there. EA cabs are, to those who know, the friggin' greatest little boxes ever. I have the 2x10 as well, but the 1x10 is my favorite for balanced output without boominess, especially indoors. I plan on getting another 1x10 to run my Walter Woods in stereo when I get it (I'm drooling).

The EQ isn't incredible (there are no user selectable frequencies / parametrics / etc. but it gets the job done very well once you learn it. Most of the time I'll cut some bass if I'm indoors, if my preamp can't cut enough bass by itself ( I use a Raven Labs Master Blender and yes, it, too, rocks. Puts the Fishman preamps/blender to shame.)

I usually just have it set flat, with minor adjustments at my preamps to compensate for my different axes (upright and electric.)

Turning up the MID adds some nice growl but don't overdo it! The same goes for the treble and the bright control, especially, which boost the signal at 9khz. My glorious upright sounds incredibly natural through this rig. It is the best sound I have ever played through--It sounds like my 100 year old bass, only louder.

A tip--before you go and boost the treble, mid, and bright settings, try cutting the bass a little first! Like in the studio, cut is always better than boost. This amp with the EA cabs will sound lower and deeper than anything you've ever heard. So low, in fact, that an adjustment period may be necessary for you to fully appreciate the extended bottom end and accuracy of the system, without feeling that it is overly boomy. Again, This is where I must say that of the three EA cabs that I have tried, the 1x10 is the best for most situations (the 37 pound spec on it clinched it) and is also the lightest, except for the 1x8, which I haven't tried.

Construction 80%
(blew up when a speaker cable was halfway out--they fixed it for free and ad
ded a resistor, though!)) Metal case is built like a tank, though--very tough.

Loudness 97%
(for its size)
Clarity 95%
Tone 98%
(possibly not as astounding of a sound with electric bass, but still GREAT!)
Size/Bulkiness 100%
Value 99%
Overall 97%
(this thing rocks. If you can't afford a Walter Woods and don't need to pla
y incredibly loud, gig a LOT and are sick of schlepping your 40-pound amp head
to the gig, give this one a try! It's so small I have to continually remind
myself not to forget to bring it or accidentally leave it on a gig!! This thi
ng ROCKS....at least with EA cabs.)
