This amp sounds amazing. I've never heard any amp, tube or solid state, sound more together than this amp. adjectives that come to mind are: focused, natural, coherent, LOUD, articulate, thick, and polished. It is not colored, harsh or thin sounding. Hopefully that sufficiently explains how much I'm impressed with its sound.
The input / preamp stage is very easy to use. passive / active switch, gain, bass, middle, treble knobs, with bright and deep switches, master volume, and aforementioned FX loop. The EQ controls seem to affect the sound the perfect amount, adding bass and treble, but not changing the sound of your bass. The pots are very smooth and solid. It also features a jensen balanced XLR output, with a ground lift, and pre / post EQ option
On top of the fact that it sounds phenomenal, it is also beautifully constructed. The frame is very solid, made from lightweight aluminum. the preamp has four tubes, which may explain its wonderful sound (most hi-fi standalone preamps have one tube inside). Everything inside is secured well, and the wires are neat and well soldered. it's poweramp is very clean and well designed. Two fans cool the unit very effectively. On the back, there are 2 speakon outputs, as well as a tuner out, muting footswitch, preamp send and poweramp input. the power switch also lives on the back of the amp (which I think is a pain). If all that other stuff wasn't high tech and impressive enough for you, it also has a computerized self diagnostic check that it does during power up, making sure everything is running properly, to minimize damage to the amp. serious business.
Only two gripes. The power switch on the back bothers me, it's just easier to have it on the front. Also, I wish the fans were variable speed or defeatable, for use at low volumes. They are fairly loud. Everything else about it is sweeet. I believe its right in the same price bracket as a brand new Eden WT800 or SWR SM900 (approx $2000 list), and in my opinion, you get worlds more in terms of materials, construction, and sound
Oh yeah, and its loud as hell!
