My first impression of this cab was wow!!! This little thing rocks. It is quite deep sounding and is very clear and articulate. Compared to an Eden 2x10 or Metro, it is not as punchy (likely due to the 10's more low mid aggressiveness) but it's more even sounding and handles my 5 string low notes with ease. The sound just sings. I really like the sound of the 12".
It fits nicely in the mix and gives me a much better overall fatness that I cannot get from my 10's. I don't play much upright but the sound of the upright through this box is the best. I have not heard better. It was also quite surprising to me how big it could sound.
I played at a gig where the main PA was less than stellar and this thing was able to produce enough volume for 60+ people in a medium size room. I was really pushing it with my amp (well over the recommended 300 watts) and it handled it with ease.
I also own a 2x12" Aguilar cab which I got after NAMM in January 7 months ago. I was actually inquiring about adding another 1x12" and was able to compare 2 1x12" cabs vs. 1 2x12". It wasn't what I expected.
According to the Aguilar rep, originally their goal was to make the 2x12" sound like 2 1x12"s but changed their approach after feedback from players. The 2x12" sounds huge compared to 2 1x12"s so I got it instead. It actually sounds bigger than a 4x10.
One thing about the Aguilar cabs is they sound better the more wattage you give them. At extremely low volumes I would choose the Eden 2x10 but if my volume is above 4 then it's the Aguilar hands down. The cab sounds best laid flat and stacks perfectly with a 2x10 on it's side.
I use this primarily for pop, general rock stuff (not harder stuff, obviously), jazz, and funk.
Overall I think this cabinet is a steal for the street price of $399 ($549 list). You can't beat it's overall sound in a stand alone box. It's fat, loud, warm, and easy to carry. The Aguilar padded covers are also top notch.
