| Manufacturer | Alembic |
| Model | P/J Activator Setup |
| Price | $100 (used) |
| Dimensions | P and J - The J seems to be somewhere between Fender's |
| bridge and neck sizes |
The setup includes a P, a J, and a harness with a pan, volume, and active tone pot. The The active circuitry is attached directly to each of the pots and are wired into a special jack that I can't remember the name of. The bottom line is that you don't need a bridge ground because of the jack they use. Big plus. It's also a square casing, so I spent some time with a chisel. Not a big plus.
The sound is crisp and bright. The tone control can really twank the sound around from a crispy, thunderous slap tone, to a warm fuzzy fingerstyle sound. Try these pickups out by playing an Alembic -- I think you'll like them.
On a final note, I have found the customer service at Alembic to be second to none. I can't believe the help they've provided to me, and I own a second hand Activator setup! Three cheers for Mica, Kent, and the whole bunch at Alembic.
