I bought this Alembic Epic 4 string used over the Internet, (Bass Palace)and was not disappointed. The Epic is simply a wonderful bass to look at, and certainly to play. I wanted a bass with active electronics - the Epic has plenty of bottom and top end available, all at your fingertips. The neck is quick, very flat, very true. The body is a very nice maple cap on mahogany, which I guess is one of the reasons I'm so happy with the overall sound. To my ear, it has a "cleaner, better defined bass sound" than I had previously had. I'm very happy with it, and think that this is a good value, particularly used. (List is about $2200). As a friend of mine pointed out, it is somewhat "unforgiving", in the sense that everyone will clearly hear every note you play.
