The most cutting sound I've encountered. I had some neck problems early on, but Alembic fixed it and waived shipping. It is the only bass I've owned the really cuts through the guitars. It is crisp, clear and full of both highs and lows. I love the adjustable brass nut; but it can make a "tweaker" out of you if you get carried away. Alembic likes a flat board, so you have to keep the action medium-high, but it's easy to get used to. I'm currently using Alembic steel strings, but I put some DR Hi-beams on it this summer and they were hot! I personally disdain active controls, so I leave 'em flat and they sound great!
