I've been a fretless player for years. Beginning with a fretless Precision, then moving up to a Pedulla 4 string Buzz. Playing a Rob Allen bass was a completely new experience. The first thing I noticed about the MB-2 by Rob Allen, was its playability. There is a "presence" to the fingerboard that I've never experienced before. Very tactile and responsive. Next, the overall balance and weight of the bass is incredible. Coming in at about 6 pounds, this thing is a dream to hold. With the piezo and black nylon strings, the MB-2 has been a great alternative to the upright Kay acoustic I just sold. While there are no typical "tone" controls, different sounds can be achieved through varying your technique and through the amplifier's EQ. I use an SWR Bassic Black Combo 15" with astounding results. The wood choices are superb and the workmanship is top-notch. Rob Allen offers these guitars at very low prices, at least for now.
