I played around for quite sometime with an old moch Fender P bass. Heavy body unbalanced and with moderate workability. I thought I would get serious about my bass playing and through all the hype lost sight of my true intensions of finding the best bass for workability, preformance, tone, versatility and overall comfort. I bought a model and brand just for the model and brand. I then corrected my thinking and started researching and building a case log of information about seperate makes and models. After all of that crap, I decided to say *^$#%^^%&!! with all of that. I just went to play a number of basses and the Alvarez won my heart hands and now devotion. I could not have found a more effective and versital bass for the money. It was $700.00 new. I only paid $172.50 with trade. The neck feels like a Strat in your hand. It is narrow so the strings are a little close, but great for fast play. Not so great for slap.(If you are going to play slap you have to be very accurate anyway and the narrow neck and action aid in accuracy) The body looks like an Ibanez or Small musicman. Very well contoured to the body and comfortable to play standing or seated. Very easy on the eyes. I actually prefer the style. Not very heavy and balances the guitar nicely.

The best part is that there is no loss of tone. I can pull about anything from this guitar in tone. Much is due to the Active Pickups. The action is great. I can play anything from punk to gospel and still have range. The gouchos can be adjusted to suit play and style. UP or down and side to side by the bridge settings. You can play the strings close to the board without noise, or from a distance if you like. I can pull the E and walk away for a sandwich(exaguration)and still feel the vib. I really just cannot see ever parting with this guitar. It will be apart of my arsenal until we part for ever. For a starter. Go find a used one. With the action and easy play. One of the best on the market for starter or vet. TTTTTHHHHUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG Epuller
