I recently bought this 6 string after a break from playing of a few years, my main bass previously was a Hohner 4 string. After the decision was made to play again, I thought why not buy a reasonable 6 string, and after some research on the net I found this Alvarez for less that $400.

I have only had this bass about 3 weeks now, so this review is basically (sorry;-) a first impression. The construction is excellent, with black hardware, and a very nice finish. The bass is not overly heavy, and balances well, it is easy to play both standing and seated.

This bass sounds great, period! Even though this is a passive bass, I still have a wide range of tones to choose (2 volumes + 1 tone control). The midrange is especially sweet.

My only gripes with the Alvarez AEB6PB are i) only 22 frets?? why not 24? and ii) the string spacing is too close (for me at least.. I have big fingers), the neck and string spacing could be a little wider, but I will adjust. However these are minor, and may suit another player completely.

Overall this is a great buy, for a 6 string newbie (like me), or as a backup for you pros out there. I hope this review was helpful.

Take care, and always have fun. 182samadhi
