this was the first bass i bought (about 4 years ago). i have several other basses in my collection, mostly upper-end basses compared to the Alvarez, but the Alvarez has been a mainstay in my fleet of basses..the bass plays very very well. the string spacing is perfect for a jazz bassist(the neck feels like a 4 string neck, so the spacing of the strings is very narrow, great for fast jazz, not so great for slapping) the body fits next to you really well and it feels very solid while your playing. all this and it is only around $500.
