I have owned pro-level Ampeg, Mesa-Boogie, Hartke, Eden, and SWR bass heads, and none of them has anything on this amp, which is usually available for $300 or less, if you can find one. Dollar-for-dollar, this amp wins every qualitative comparison going away. The strength, clarity, versatility, and accuracy of the BH-420 sound compel you to perk up your ears and take notice. It is rare to hear an amp that stands apart sonically the way this one does. It's the kind of instrument that allows you to be a force in nearly any playing context. It is utterly incredible to me that these amps did not achieve great renown when they were originally introduced.
Additionally, since the unit is 100% solid state, it is likely to be reliable for a long time to come, despite the fact that the newest ones are more than a decade old. The age factor has yet to be an issue with mine (I know several other players/owners who report similar flawless operation). On many occasions, I've run mine quite hard with no adverse consequences of any sort.
And the thing is freaking loud as you want it to be, too.
Are you feeling me about this?
