As someone else noted, the simplicity of this amp is the best part.
It's got a great warm sound that you don't have to screw around
with too much. Other combos that I tried had graphic EQ that
you really had to dork with to get a decent sound. There is
enough control from the tone controls for me in small jazz combos
or my 12 piece swing band. However, sometimes I have a problem
cutting through on stage. You definately will need PA support
for a large room and as you start to crank it, the low end becomes
a little grungier. Depending on what you are playing, this might
be a desirable feature. I wish they had given the amp just
a little more balls and provided an external speaker jack. The
line out is clean so far, but mic the speaker for the best sound.
It is not easy to carry at 65 lbs and one handle.
I may try and add some casters to it, but even
that won't save my back lifting it into a hatchback.
There should also be some way to secure the power cord
(get a velcro clasp). I do love the retro look and have
gotten lots of questions about it.
Overall, I think it is perfect for any small group, particularly
jazz, but be aware of volume limitations if you need to play
really loud and clean in big rooms. It is by far the best amp
I saw under $600.
