Ampegs new reissue of the classic B-15 is overall an outstanding
amplifier. The amp list for $1900.00 but I bought it for $1300.00. A
little pricy to be sure but it must have cost the company for the
redesign and the reman ufacture of the various parts. The amp is on
the top of the cabinet, a flip top design. The amp consist of 4
Groove Tube 6L6 Pw. tubes and three 12ax7 for the preamp. The amp
features a 60/100 watt switch and low Z output. The tone is
outstanding, particularly at lower volumes. The cabinet suffers in
one regard. By fliping the top over to play, the inside top of the
cabinet has no insulation as the remaining inside cabinet walls
have. I tend to notice some frequencies to be louder than others. I
decide to remove the amp from the top cabinet and to insulate the
cabinet top with like material. The result is that the cabinet is
tighter sounding and more focused. I was disapointed to fined the
Groove Tubes not matched as checked by my tube tester.
I also noticed that the grill cloth was not aligned perfectly. The amp
must have been manufactured on a Monday or a Friday. I'm sorry, but
for what this amp cost, I expect perfection.
