This amp is the best 100 watt all tube combo for sure. It's even better
than a 100 watt all tube head/seperate cab set up (V4B...). The tone is
A+, the sound is warm, beefy, full...I can't say enough. I can use this
at any medium to small size venue and fill the room without any trouble.
Larger rooms will require a more powerfull bass head/speaker set up.
Although the Black Crows bass player used one on tour in Boston at a large
club venue with the extension 15" cab and a line out through the PA
system - sounded great!
Any how, I am upset about a few things. I purchased the amp through Guitar
Center who told me delivery would be 2 weeks, and it arrived in 9 weeks.
Not sure if the Ampeg folks make these on order or what. I know Ampeg are
not easy to get in touch with so you'll probably have to count on the
dealer for tracking delivery. Second, when the amp arrived I brought it to
a gig and the thing crapped out on me half way into the 2nd song of our
set. Luckily, I brought a back up head - SVT 3 pro - and went through a
spare 1x15" speaker. Returned it to the dealer. After close inspection, it
appears that the problem is in the circuit board in the speaker cabinet
(behind the input jacks). Shame on Ampeg for not testing the new unit
before shipping. A good quality contol process will save Ampeg $$$ in the
long run. Guitar Center is going to give me a new one that is on order - good news.
But the bad news is I have to wait AGAIN for the amp. So, in a nut shell -
the amp, if not a lemon, SOUNDS great. The bad news is that buying this
amp has turned out to be the most disheartening musicial equipment
purchasing experience that I have ever encountered.
