After lugging around 2x15 cabs for 25 years,it was time for a change or a back operation. I decided on a 4x10 cab, as they seemed to be the most available at the Music stores to check out.I also thought it was a good compromise.

I'm used to that nice round bottom you get from 15's,yet I found myself popping a bit more in my playing and the 15's just were'nt cutting it. I also needed something more portable. I play everything from dinky banquet halls, to outdoor"festival" type gigs, to 400 seat clubs,in an 8 piece retro-soul band complete with horn section.

I tried the SWR, the GK ,the Hartke,a nd fell head over heels in love with the Ampeg. It is actually deeper than my 2x15 cab, so the low end can really be punched, and of course, the 10's are perfect for popping and slapping. It came with casters which none of the other cabs I tried did. I play everything from

Sinatra to Smashmouth, but most of the stuff is in the James Brown-Earth Wind and Fire genre, and the BSE handled everything I threw at it. At times, I

had to look down to make sure it was'nt my old cab. I was never a big Ampeg freak, but this cab has made me a believer.

Don't let the 91 lbs scare you, the weight seems to be distibuted well, and you really can lift it up into that Honda. The tweeter is an added plus-(4x10 cabs sound better with one than without). All in all,it will never take the place of a 2x15 cab,but it comes pretty damn close.

Construction 98%
(very solid, would have liked bigger casters)
Clarity 100%
(what you might expect from a more expensive cab)
Volume 98%
(400 watts is enough for me)
Portability 100%
(just what I needed-very easy on the back)
Value 100%
(Many cabs cost more, don't sound as good)
Overall 98%
(An excellent choice if you are downsizing)
