This cabinet really confuses me. Everytime I've played out of one, all I get is sonic mud. Yet so many players swear by Ampeg products. I borrowed this cab for a gig, so I could get an idea of what all the hype is about. It rolled on two wheels which is easier that dealing with a four caster cab. The trade off is that bass-producing cab space is lessened to make room for tilit back casters. It seems as if Ampeg really cut corners when it comes to product quality. The cab had a tolex covering with mesh grill. To me, tolex belongs on guitar cases, not cabs. It rips easily, and looks cheesey. I'm a fan of rugged metal speaker grills, not cheap mesh ones. This cab is tall, so getting it in a small club may be a problem. I felt as if the cab was not stable enough for my amp to sit on top of, so I put my head on a chair. I plugged into this beast with no tweater, and got what I expected....mud. It was cool to play an 8X10, because the sound was at ear level. Too bad the sound sucked. After the ampeg disaster gig, I packed this coffin into my car. Not the best cab to pack up after a long night on stage. If you love Ampeg, great. If you are considering an Ampeg, I would look elsewhere. SWR makes lots of cool cabs with in the same price range.
