Well I've always loved Ampeg's tone. It's a rock tone, thick, juicy and tones of meat.

I've had this amp for a little over a year and a half and had no troubles with it what so ever. It's a very good amp with lot's of features and good looks and quality construction. In fact it's been the only amp not including my Roland DB500 combo that hasn't been in for repairs at some point and time and those amps include some big names like SWR (ran way to hot until one day it quit altogether), Trace Elliot (intermittent problems turned out to be a cracked board), Peavey (built in chorus stopped chorusing) and Carvin (all kinds of weird frikin things going on with it and just a general crappie generic tone). Anyway I'll get back on track and just say that yes it's a workingman's amp. it's reliable and has all the tones and features a bassist needs.

The only problem I have with this amp, is it's not very loud!!. I have to crank my Boss effects pedals up full to get it to put out the volume I require. My Trace was only 300 watts into a 4 ohm load and it was way louder than this thing goes. In fact my Roland DB500 combo gets louder than the SVT 3 PRO?. Now before all you Ampeg heads start trashing me here, the heads is connected into a classic 4x10 and 1x15 Ampeg cabs connected with speakon cables. So it's not me and I've actually had other guys say they have the same problem with their SVT 3 PRO heads. The only way you can get lot's of volume is to crank the hell out of the preamp which of course invites unwanted distortion into the signal. Hmmmmm!!!, oh well it does sound good even if it ain't very loud.
