I love this amp. It is solid in sound and weight. I compared it to many wonderful sounding amps. Many companies have great sounding amps depending on what sound you like. I found that I was tweaking lighter (some less expensive) amps to sound like this one because I thought it was too big. Mainly the GK 1001rb, SWR sm500, and the Eden WT800. These have great sounds and great qualities, but I couldn't deny the head room the Ampeg SVT 4 offers. The GK peaked out sooner than the SWR and Eden, but was very warm for a solid state head. If you are not in a loud situation I think that one of the afore mentioned amps would sound great. However if you want to retain the same warmth at louder performing levels the SVT 4 Pro is a winner. Ofcourse the great adjustable compressor, built in limiters, 9-band graphic eg, Ultra lo/hi switches, and bridge/stereo modes help to achieve that. It is a heavier, expensive unit, however most eqivualents to this type of power and preamp will run about the same in price and weight.
