Well, after playing about 15 years in loud bands in a setup of 2 1*15" (EV speakers)and a 2*10"(Celestion) with Trace Elliott AH350, I bought this year the Ampeg SVT Classic 300W tubes. Monster!! Greater sound with same speakers already, more defined sound. Wanted to buy an Ampeg 8*10 cabinet as well, but did not, because of weight and dimensions. Recently, tired of hauling my speakers, i bought the 6*10 cabinet without even having it heard!! I got exactly what i expected to get, because i knew the sound of the 4*10 as well as the 8*10. So, why wouldn't the 6*10 don't have that 'sound'?? Well, it does!! Big sound, too hi fi? NOT, (if you don't want to). Crank up your input gain, and you get that typical Ampeg 'flabby', punchy, r'n'r-sound. Enough lows on distance, with a lot of punch and clarity (you won't hear those lows on stage, but i think that's not so important). I think the combination with an Ampeg SVT is "the secret of the Ampeg-lows". I can/may create more lows than needed, even with a short scale bass.(I'm using the Danelectro Longhorn reissue as main instrument). Maybe not fair to put it this way, but i think an amp and cabinet of the same family is always a winning team. Best of both worlds and enhancing each other. So, sounds great and looks great, the stack is almost a piece of art:-)).
