I went several amps before I got this one..Hartke, SWR, etc. I really didn't like its sound a lot in the showroom, but then I tried it at a gig. WOW!! You just can't get a bad sound from it live and its got PLENTY of power, much more apparent volume than an SWR SM-900 or a Hartke 5000. Fairly versatile tone-wise, but obviously not near as much as the SWR. One complaint is weight. At around 80 pounds for the head in a rack, its not for weaklings. But that SOUND! The other problem with this rig is the recurring cost for tubes. Be prepared to drop about $350 or more for a full power amp/pre-amp retubing. Nonetheless, this is the only amp I have kept longer than six months.
