I bought this cab because for use specifically with my upright bass ('62 Kay in a Jazz standards trio)). I had already bought the very excellent Bag End S15D(see that review) for my electrics (4 and 5 string) and while the S15D is fabulous for the electrics it was a little too boomy in the botton end for the URB.

The S12D is absolutely perfect for my URB. While the Bag End is not as flat as, say, a Euphonics Audio, it is very precise and clear and doesn't cloud the natural voice of my bass. That's pretty amazing because I power it with an Eden WT-500 which has the classic Eden amp voicing.Like all Bag Ends it likes lots of power.

The S12D is not a great all-round electric cabinet though. It is definitely not suitable for a 5 string at gig volume. It's not bad with a 4 string but the lower notes (A through E) don't have enough low end thump. Having said that it is usable and 99% of the audience wouldn't know the difference from the S15D....but you would.

So, if you're a URB guy get the S12D. If you're an electric guy get the S15D. If you're a doubler get both. If you can't get both....hmmmmmm, get the S15D. It's shortcomings with an upright are less than the shortcomings of the S12D with an electric.

My ratings are based only with the upright since that's why I bought it.
