This is exactly what I like - a cheap thing that really works! I traded in an old Aria ProII ThorSound (it was anything but) and ended up paying $100 for a bass that feels good & sounds great!
Got one in the box - untouched. After I adjusted the slight backbow in the neck and set the action & intonation to my prefs, I found that it plays really well. Don't know much about the body, but the neck & fingerboard are really nice. Much more than I'd have expected in this price range.
Next is the sound. Before the adjustments this bass sounded GREAT. Good slap, good bottom, good tonal range, lotsa bite from both pickups. But after adjusting the action, I noticed something... I couldn't raise the pickups! So I had to remove the strings & the pickups, and place springs underneath. NOTE to Sam Ash: this is an almost zero-cost item! Include it on the instrument!
Anyway, it now sounds as good as it plays. And even though it seems to be neck-heavy, it does not unbalance itself when played while standing. I was ready to spend hundreds. I didn't need to. What a pleasant surprise!
