I bought this bass as a backup and loaner to various people. It happened to arrive on the same day that I had a studio recording to do, so I brought it along and went in early. I recorded a couple of tracks with it and was very disappointed in the tone. To be fair I decided to try different knob settings to get familiar with the bass. After 1/2 hour I looked over at the engineer who gave it a BIG thumbs down, for the recording. Both him and his assistant agreed on the fact that the bass was unsatisfactory in the area of tone. The bass is well constucted. The finish is very nice. Whats above average for this bass versus other $750 ones is the lack of any fret buzz. I didn't like how the bass felt in my hands, but this is very subjective. Maybe a change in electronics and a different selection of woods may help, but I can't do more than speculate. For those that are on a tight budget or don't have competitive music stored in their area, this may be a good choice. It's a cheap bass, so don't expect it to be a high caliber bass. For what you get, the price is about right. One thing that didn't chime well with me is the fact that the resale value is extremely low. This does make it a good deal used.
