I myself wanted to make a small amp purchase a few months ago. I wanted an amp which is better for upright, and also much smaller and lighter. I checked on eBay a few SWR Workingman's 10" cube and the Hartke 10" Kickback, which of the latter I liked immensly. I own an R600 head and love it, so with the price half of the competition Carvin won my money. Everything about this amp is not just perfect, but more than you would expect. The simple EQ isn't as versitile as the R600's, but in this case it is a good thing because it is impossible for this little baby to sound bad. And don't think just because of its tiny size this thing can't shake - I've used it in large auditoriums with medium - loud bands and it cut through great, with tons of boom and mid range punch. Obviously, the highs are excellent as well.

The amp is clean and crisp, and especially good with upright. In fact, it is now an amp I use to 50% of my gigs, always on upright, and to all my practices. I really hesistate to call it a "practice amp" because it is powerful enough and excellent enough to be used for gigs. In terms of tone, it beats my David Eden XLT 4x10. This thing is by far the best amp I have ever used.

For those of you beginning bassist who need an amp (or those who want to start bass)I would not reccomend buying the crappy practice amps you find in stores. For about 50 - 100$ more you can use this amp which has the tonal clarity to be used professionally (I do it!). It is impossible to outgrow this amp with the speaker output. The tone is top notch. And for those of you who are looking for a smaller amp or one for practice, I want you to know that this is by far the best, not just for the money, but the best for any sum of money. Its also the cheapest! Carvin ships fast and I've never had a problem with any of there equipment.
