The amp is clean and crisp, and especially good with upright. In fact, it is now an amp I use to 50% of my gigs, always on upright, and to all my practices. I really hesistate to call it a "practice amp" because it is powerful enough and excellent enough to be used for gigs. In terms of tone, it beats my David Eden XLT 4x10. This thing is by far the best amp I have ever used.
For those of you beginning bassist who need an amp (or those who want to start bass)I would not reccomend buying the crappy practice amps you find in stores. For about 50 - 100$ more you can use this amp which has the tonal clarity to be used professionally (I do it!). It is impossible to outgrow this amp with the speaker output. The tone is top notch. And for those of you who are looking for a smaller amp or one for practice, I want you to know that this is by far the best, not just for the money, but the best for any sum of money. Its also the cheapest! Carvin ships fast and I've never had a problem with any of there equipment.
