I was concidering a Carvin, but I've heard mixed reviews about their electronics, and the look/style of their basses is kind of 'ho-hum' IMO. I saw some people talking about DP custom basses on www.talkbass.com and checked out the DP custom web site. I saw that I could get a lot more for my money then going with a Carvin, so I went for it.
Having Dave build my bass was a blast, I got to choose everything myself. And he was very helpful in helping me make some decisions. After about 5 months it was done.
the bass is awesome! it plays SO good, and sounds even better. The Bartolini Quad coils are the best pick ups I've ever played on. I can choose from P-bass, Jazz bass, and full humbucking combinations. The Schaller tuners never go out of tune, I hardly have to tune the thing. The neck is super thin and awesome to play, the fret work was flawless, and the intonation is perfect. The bridge can be a pain, but that's not Dave's fault, I picked it. But it only excepts taper wound B strings.
There is a few minor cosmetic flaws, nothing that effects the playabillity, or reliabillity. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change anything, and I'm writing this after more than a year of owning it.
