First - the action on this thing was absolutely atrocious out of the box. The strings were WAY up there off the fingerboard. Terrible. I tried and tried for about a month to get the strings lower and more comfortable. The best I could get was a nice low action at the first few frets, but still unacceptably high action near the 12th fret and beyond. I suspect the neck was seriously bowed. I tried and tried to get the neck straighter with some truss rod adjustments, but no luck.
The soapbar pickup was lame, also. No character at all in the tone. No punch, no fretless "mwah." Also, being "semi-hollow body" didn't seem to matter too much in terms of tone. Sounded like a solid-body anyway.
But - the worst thing about this bass was the fret lines. You could actually feel them on your fingers as you played, and if you slid up or down you could hear where your finger crossed the lines. Terrible. Basically, that defeated the whole purpose of it being fretless!
I kept this thing for about 6 months and then realized it was a lost cause. So for now I'm sticking to my Fender Jazz Fretless (1990, MIJ) and my Geddy Lee Jazz. If you want a low-end fretless, I recommend the Fender Jazz.
I do not recommend the Dean Rhapsody at all!
