Ok. When I got this thing I was hoping it would cover all my needs. Maybe
I was expecting to much. The unit itself is very nice, the effects are
decent. The Tube can add a bit of warmth to a solid state amp, if you use
one of the tube preamps in the processor. The effects themselfs range from
useable to unuseable. The Preamps them selves aren't bad, but not as good
as a nice amp. If you run your amp fairly flat when you use it, you can
get from a mild tube clipping sound to all out distortion both of which are
useable sounds for a rock player. The envelope filter is alright and so is
the chorus. Which are the main two effects I use on it. The flanger, and
wah leaves a bit to be desired. The compressor is one of the Units strong
points. Strong compression is possible for slapping. The EQ is quite good
but not as useable unless you set your amp absolutly flat. The Octa bass
feature is useable in some situations. The fretless feature is realitively
useless, probably thrown in for another check mark for the advertising
department. One of the best features is the built in tuner. Which I find
myself using at all my gigs. I have used better Floor tuners this one
doesn't recognize the B string very well. But it gets the job done and
keep me from being noisy between songs at gigs.
Bottom line...as soon as I have the money I am going with analog effects
boxes. This unit is probably one of the better bass effects processors
though, for whats that is worth. With every effect processor I have ever
had. I end up using very little of the effects and wishing I just bought
pedels which sound better and are simple to tweek. I wouldn't waste your
money unless you don't know much about effects and want a good general
effects unit which allows you to try out effects before you invest in a
bunch of effects pedals. I think digital has a long way to go before it as
good as analog.
