If you enjoy the warm tones and finger picking friendly attributes of a short scale mahogany bass then you really can't go wrong here. The neck is very comfortable and well dressed and plays like silk. Once the instrument was set up I never had to tweak it again (unlike my Fenders). The tone is pure butter and the short scale makes for easy fingering. The overall build quality is excellent.
The drawbacks are: This is a "vintage" sounding instrument. If you are looking for a modern slap tone go elsewhere. Although the E string played and sounded well (not too tubby) it's output was less than the other strings. The tone control was a joke and had very little effect. With a strap this thing balances about as well as you'd expect from the SG shape.
I've seen these discounted as low as $220 new making this bass one heck of a bargain. I recently let mine go to a friends daughter who wanted to learn bass. I assure you it won't be long before I replace it.
