This bass is very good for beginners or the musician looking for an intersting short scale bass. It sounds pretty good, though the pickup is quite hot in the bass frequencies, and sometimes there will be distortion. There was a little fret buzz, but adjusting the bridge and truss rod a little got rid of it almost completely. It sometimes slips out of tune, which is unfortunate if you have a very aggressive playing style. Ass for the sound, this bass is good for dub, punk, rock, and blues. It sounds really great if you add a little fuzz. The looks are to die for. It's not often that you see a factory bass with wood and finish that are this beautiful. The grain is outstanding and the red cherry finish actually made my boss, a drummer, say "Holy Crap!!" It holds up well too. I Dropped it accidentally once, damaging the knob, but leaving the pot untouched...it was very sturdy.
