That Animals / Cream / etc. etc... sound was there in large dollops of the thick delicious wipped variety. It begged to be played. But it seemed to demand respect, enticing you reach into your very soul & pour your heart out with delicate, throbing basslines. None off the slap & tickle so prevelent in todays music would be allowed here. These strings need to be lovingly caressed, or the short scale length of this beauty, would slap you in the face for your impertinance.
Yes it did need a good setup. Which I am glad to say I know how to do. Which is more than can be said for some of the so called expert technicians in the local music stores in my area. Once the action & setup had been sorted out, things were much better, but because of the scale length, you still need to be spot on with your playing. The nature of this beastie, takes no prisoners.
So it only has one pickup, big deal. . .! Place the heal of you hand down onto the bass boost switch {firmly} & hey presto; where did the extra pickup come from. . .!!!?
OK, I don't play it as often as I should. But for Blues, jazz & sixties beat-band sound it cannot be improved upon. So, if this is your type of music. This lovely creature, is most certainly for you.
