This Bass plays very easy and the action is very low so the strings are very gentle and easy for a lot of slide action. The tone is very mellow, not suitable for hard rock, punk ect... better for jazz, ambient ect.. I'm in an industrial goth, futuristic band and the slide sound with effects is very unique. This is a very easy to play fretless. For as delicate as it looks it is very sturdy I have just a soft gig bag and I carried it all through south america on busses airplane carriers and the like, this thing was beaten pretty bad and not even a visable scratch. Nice. It stays in tune very nicely even from changes in temp. and moisture. Example I took it from the rainforest to a plane and then to the cold in the US and it was still in tune. Strings that come with it play well and I didn't need to replace the manufacture's strings like with most low end basses. This bass has a unique sound and it's not for everyone, but I have loved playing it and it is great if you are thinking of trying fretless, 'cause its so smooth and easy to play. It is also a good value. Good balance and light weight (comparetively). The look is much nicer than the other epiphone violin bass if you ask me it looks a lot more unique and not just a copy of the beatle violin bass.
