The bass itself is without a doubt one of the most playable basses I've ever had the pleasure to play. It balances perfectly sitting or standing, it's light, the neck is absolutely a masterpiece of design and I'm able to pull off licks on this instrument that I simple can't on my other basses, simply put, it feels right in every sense of the word. It stays in tune and the sound is full, warm and sings forever, in either passive or active mode. Speaking of the active passive system, well, it's great, very flexible and very transparent sounding. The active mode is just an extension of an already great sounding passive instrument. You can switch from passive to active very easily, just pull the tone knob and you're in active mode. The bass is noise free and has one of the best shielding jobs I've ever seen. The active system is a F bass design, no aftermarket stuff in here, pure F bass and pure tone. The body is very comfortable and light, a Godsend on long gigs or practices. It also has a wonderfully contoured upper horn that again, just looks and feels right. Access to the upper frets is easy and very playable. The neck sits very deep into the body and is very stable and is held on by four screws. The control knobs and pickup covers are made out wood. In fact the pickup covers and control plate are cut from the same piece of wood as the body and the look is amazing. You can tweak the two-way truss rod very easily if need be, but I have only made one slight adjustment on mine in over six months, so as far as I'm concerned this is one stable design. I can't say enough about the tone of this instrument, except to say that when I use my F bass people notice a difference and that includes my band mates.
This is one fantastic instrument; tone, playability, features, design, comfort, it has it all. These basses ain't cheap, in fact they list for over three grand in Canada, but if you play bass and you love to play bass, you owe it to yourself to check one of these beauties out.
Just one more thing, this bass is so good, I'm honestly thinking of selling a few of my other basses including my Fenders and my Spector to pick up a BN5, a five string version. WHAT MORE CAN I SAY, just go a try one out and start saving your $$$$$$$$$.
P.S. the customer service provided by F bass is second to none, trust me.
