I purchased this third hand from a guy in Alaska. I have no idea who the original purchaser was. What I have here is a monster.
First the electronics: It has two sets of electronics; the original F Bass and an Alembic Q filter. The bass has a selector switch that sends different pickups to different sets of electronics. Some modes activate a blend switch as well. The F Bass electronics include a bass, treble and blend. The Alembics have a Q switch and filter. Each set of electronics has its own volume. The bass has a stereo out and can be run mono, split stereo (one set of electronics per channel) or dual mono sends. The bass requires an external battery pack to power. Needless to say, there are a wide range of sounds possible from this bass.
Electronics aside, the bass is also awesome. Construction is as good as any other high end bass I've played. Many players far better than me have played it and it receives consistently high marks. The ceruse finish is fantastic. The attention to detail (wood covered pickups) is what you'd expect for an instrument in this pricerange. It's over 10 years old and has held up quite well.
I've called George several times and he's always been a gentleman. He asks a fair sum of change for his work, but in my opinion its worth it. This is a one of a kind instrument. If lost, stolen or damaged, I'd have a nervous breakdown. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I had the money.
If I were to complain about something, it would be 21 frets. I sometimes play chordal accompanyment in trio settings and do venture up that high. A full 24 frets would be appreciated. (My fretless is marked for 28). I also noticed some of the fret slots were cut a little too deep. The electronics suck a lot of juice and can introduce noise into the signal. (Although that's not George's fault. The mods were aftermarket.)
